I was excited to work on this book because it contains a lot of instances of localization changes that are unknown to most English speaking retro fans.
He is a professional English to Japanese translator for video games, and also runs a blog called Gaminglish that explains various memes and bits of English gaming culture to Japanese players. It was written by Hanenashi Error, who translated and distributed our Sega Arcade Classics and Castlevania books into Japanese, and contribute to our 200 Best Games of All Time book. HG101 is happy to announce that we are publishing a localized version of Retro Game Super Translation Selection, a doujinshi that highlights various written localization changes in 8 and 16-bit games.
I'll also have a few boxes of games (mostly PlayStation 2, some really good ones too!), and Carrie will have a Zelda standee for sale.įeel free to stop by and say hi, and also feel free to browse through any of the books we have on display! Here's a map and where we are: I'll also be sharing the table with Carrie Wood, author of the The Overstreet Guide to Collecting Video Games, which I also contributed a couple of articles to and will also be available for sale.
Update Logġ2/2: Marisa Kirisame (Scarlet) has been added to the Tier List with preliminary ratings.ġ1/19: After giving NA players a few days to get used to her and upon community discussion, Reimu Hakurei (Scarlet) has had her ratings risen to EX CQ and EX Overall.Time for Too Many Games! I've got a table again this year, where you can buy all of the HG101 books (including the brand new Retro Game Super Translation Selection and Contra and Other Konami Classics books), as well as previews of two upcoming books to browse through, The Complete Guide to the Famicom Disk System, and Retro Indie Classics Vol. The "CQ" (short for Challenge Quest) rating refers to a character's ability to perform in harder content. If the Friend in question has a Fantasy Rebirth, this will also affect their rating. Friends who are rated S or above for farming purposes may be able to get away with having a lower Awakening if you care about saving Spirit Points, for the sake of event farming. Rating Notesįor the purposes of a baseline of comparison, all Friends are considered to be fully upgraded - this means skill level 10, max Rank, max Awakening, max Stats, max Limit Break, Level 100, with optimal Story Cards (with a warning if a Friend suffers dramatically for not having their optimal Story Cards). This tier list simply only cares if they can farm Lunatic or not for the purposes of evaluating them. It’ll just take about roughly 15%~ more farming alongside obtaining fewer gold rarity material drops.
Lower rated Friends are not irredeemable, they are simply worse than those rated above them.įor the purposes of farming, even for Friends with low damage, due to how level scaling works they can still farm Hard event stages if they have an All Last Word (Solo-possible event stages won’t come out for awhile). Additionally, due to how ATK UP and DEF DOWN work, combined with easy access to the former on Story Cards, even most less damaging Friends can still work - it will take additional support, turns, or both, but even C or D Tier Friends can hit hard. A low ranking simply reflects that they lack damage, utility, or both compared to other Friends.
Assumptions: Generally, a Friend being ranked low does not mean they are worthless - due to LostWord’s elemental system, even Friends who have otherwise lacking kits can still bring element attacks for a full break.
